Missions at Westminster

Westminster Presbyterian Church believes that Jesus asks us to go to our families, our neighbors, ur community, our nation and all the way to the ends of the earth to tell people the Good News.

What God has done for us in Jesus is such good news that it simply has to be shared. While we can’t personally go to the ends of the earth, we can, through our support of those who do, be faithful the Jesus’ commandment in the Great Commission:

19 … go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20)

You will note, when looking at the missions we support, that we give to individuals and organizations both here and abroad that work for both the spiritual and physical well-being of people.

Here in Charlotte we support, for example, the Brookstone School that trains up young minds in reading, math, and science AND teaches them about God’s love while inviting them to become a follower of Jesus.

At the same time we host the Charlotte office of Young Life which is one of God’s great tools for reaching middle and high school students, urban and suburban, with the love of Jesus.

Overseas we support church planters, Bible translators, a New Testament scholar who is equipping a new generation of eastern European and African scholars to train biblically and theologically sound pastors for the young but burgeoning churches in those parts of the world.

All these along with disaster relief, Habitat of Humanity, Crisis Assistance and many more fall under this wholistic approach to missions that seeks to minister to the whole person, body, heart, mind and spirit.
